Getting Started

Set up CogmemUI and start chatting with the world's best Ai models in under five minutes.

CogmemUI is a free hosted service. You bring your own Ai provider API keys — your data stays on our secure server and is never shared.

What is CogmemUI?

CogmemUI is your universal Ai command center. One beautiful interface for 14 Ai models across 6 providers — Claude, GPT, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, and Mistral. Switch models instantly, compare them side by side, and let persistent memory make every conversation smarter.

No more juggling tabs between ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. CogmemUI brings everything together with tools like voice chat, document RAG, visual workflows, a canvas editor, Agent Mode for autonomous task execution, and much more.

Quick Start

  1. Create your account

Sign up at HiFriendbot.com and log in to access CogmemUI. It's free — no credit card required.

  2. Add an API key

Click the Settings gear icon in the header, then open the API Keys tab. Paste at least one provider key — for example, your Anthropic key for Claude. Your keys are protected with quantum-safe encryption.

  3. Start chatting

Pick a model from the model selector in the header, type a message (or click a starter template), and press Enter. That's it — you're talking to Ai.

Getting Your API Keys

You only need one API key to get started. Add more providers whenever you want to expand your options.

Tip: Each provider offers free trial credits when you first create an account. Start with one key, then add others as needed.

Your First Conversation

Choosing a model

The model selector in the header shows your current model (e.g. "Sonnet 4.6"). Click it to open the full model list and switch between any of your configured providers. You can also select Auto to let CogmemUI automatically pick the best model for each message based on the task type.

Using starter templates

When you start a new conversation, the welcome screen shows quick-start templates like Code Review, Brainstorm, Analyze Data, and Generate Image. Click any template to pre-fill a starter prompt, then add your details and send.

Keyboard shortcuts

  • Enter — Send your message
  • Shift + Enter — New line
  • Ctrl + K — Command palette
  • Ctrl + N — New chat

Persistent Memory

CogmemUI includes persistent Ai memory powered by CogmemAi. Your Ai remembers preferences, project context, decisions, and patterns across all conversations. To enable it, add your free CogmemAi API key in Settings > API Keys.

Connect External Tools (MCP Servers)

CogmemUI supports the Model Context Protocol (MCP) — an open standard for connecting Ai to external tools and data sources. You can connect any MCP-compatible tool server to extend your Ai’s capabilities.

  1. Open MCP Servers settings

Go to Settings > MCP Servers and click Add Server.

  2. Enter server details

Give the server a name, paste the Streamable HTTP endpoint URL, and choose an auth type (none, basic, or bearer token) if the server requires authentication.

  3. Discover tools

Click Discover Tools to auto-detect the server’s available tools. CogmemUI will list every tool the server exposes.

  4. Use in chat

Once discovered, MCP tools appear in your chat automatically. The Ai can call them when relevant — no extra steps needed. Each user manages their own MCP server connections independently.

Use Your Claude Code Subscription (Optional)

Already have a Claude Code subscription ($200/mo Max plan)? The CogmemUI Local Companion lets you route chat through your own subscription instead of using API keys — with full CogmemAi persistent memory.

  1. Install the companion

Make sure you have Node.js v18+ and Claude Code installed and signed in. Then run:

    npm install -g cogmemui-local

  2. Start it up

Run cogmemui-local in your terminal. It will display a bearer token — copy it. On Windows, run cogmemui-local setup to create a desktop shortcut and auto-start on login.

  3. Connect to CogmemUI

In CogmemUI, go to Settings > Local Server, paste the token, and click Save & Connect. Then enable “Use Local Ai”. Your Ai now runs through your Claude subscription with full CogmemAi memory.

Teams (Optional)

CogmemUI Teams turns your team’s scattered knowledge into shared Ai memory that proactively surfaces the right information to the right person at the right time. Decisions, protocols, best practices, and institutional knowledge — contributed by any team member and automatically available to everyone. Learn more about CogmemAi Teams →

  1. Create a team and invite members

Go to Settings > Teams and click Create Team. Give it a name and invite members by username. Set roles: Owner (full control), Admin (manage members), or Member (participate and access knowledge). You can create multiple teams — one per project, department, or client.

  2. Switch to team mode

Click the team toggle button in the header (people icon) to activate your team. When team mode is on, the Ai has access to your team’s shared memory and conversations can be shared with teammates. Your personal memories remain completely private — only team-scoped memories are shared.

  3. Collaborate with shared knowledge

As your team works, the Ai accumulates shared knowledge from every member. Ask any question and relevant team memories surface automatically — with author attribution so you know who contributed each piece of knowledge. Share conversations, see who’s online with presence indicators, and see real-time typing awareness.

Teams require a CogmemAi Teams tier ($49.99/seat/month). Visit hifriendbot.com/teams to learn more and get started.
